The principle of energy needs is one that allows us to understand our body’s energy needs and eat accordingly. Anytime we eat differently than our energy needs, we start to force the body to adapt by either decreasing the metabolism and/or storing fat.
Let’s keep it very simple. When do you think your body needs the most energy? During the day of course when you are using it the most. When do you think the body needs the least energy? At night, when we are not using it much. Therefore the principle of energy needs looks like this:
When we under eat during the day we tend to compensate by eating too much at night. Therefore we go against the principle of energy needs. Most people think this balances out (calorie in vs calorie out) but it doesn’t, the timing is very crucial. The body responds by storing fat at night (because it doesn’t need the energy) and reducing its metabolism (because its not meeting its energy requirements during the day). This results in a broken metabolism. Therefore what we tend to do looks like this:
If you have been doing this for a while then you could have a severely diminished metabolism which is the reason why you’re unable to lose weight. I created this assessment quiz that helps you determine which state your metabolism is in. Take it to find out if your metabolism is working efficiently or not:
