If you thought the title refers to weight loss goals only then let me tell you now that this post applies to EVERY goal you have in life. At the end of this post I will give you a practical step to help you get one step closer to your goals. We often worry too much about the future and spend time obsessing about past failures/mistakes. We let the fear and anxiety affect us from making the most important change during the present.
I am talking to every person out there who is too shy to go to the gym because they are overweight or feel like people will laugh at them, to those who are afraid of failing and especially those who give in to excessively drinking with their friends because they have a fear of missing out. It can also be the struggling individual with a sweet tooth but also a strong desire for losing weight, or the self-deceived person who wants to live long enough to watch their children grow but won’t give up smoking. In each and every one of us you will find some form of this struggle. The struggle of refusing to give up certain habits.
But I'm a practical guy, so I will offer my advice on the first step you need to take for you to get past this struggling point. For you to achieve any goal you MUST be willing to sacrifice who you are now for who you want to become tomorrow. I will give you a moment to let this sink in………You need to commit to yourself and have the desire to sacrifice who you are today for who you wish to be! This step is purely mental.
Once you accept that you need to sacrifice who you are now for who you want to become then all you need to do is implement what you already know. If you don't know which actions you need to accomplish a specific goal then don't be embarrassed to seek help. I have heard this in a speech before and it has been stuck in my mind since: “the winner and the loser have both failed, the difference is that the winner gets up and does it all over again”. Every single time you fail, coupled with your desire to succeed, will bring you one step closer to success. Do not be afraid to fail, embrace it instead. Now take this and apply it to your health and wellness goals. Act like who you want to become! Trust me on this: down the road when you become who you want to be, you will smile at the wonderful journey that got you there, but first you must get there.
Step: Commit to yourself mentally that you are ready to let go of who you are today for who you want to become. Reaffirm it to yourself every morning for a whole month. (Writing it down every morning is a bonus).
To a better you.
